Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player Rashee Rice

The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in communication with the NFL.

The organization did not mention Rice by name in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Social Media

The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.

No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.

Player's Recent Legal Issues

The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

Statistically, he finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
