On Monday, Leicester Crown Court was told communication data and information recovered from phones recorded Ms Wandelt consistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a DNA test throughout that period.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - at the age of three during a trip in Portugal - is one of the most covered missing child cases and continues to be unsolved.

'I Don't Want Money'

Another recorded message, played in court, recorded Ms Wandelt stating: "I know I'm overweight and plain like Madeleine used to be, but I feel what I feel."

While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's voicemail expressed: "Imagine there is a small chance that I am Madeleine? Then what? Isn't that important for you?"

"I don't want money, I have a life here in Poland, I only wish to discover," the message continued.

The jury was advised that via emails, mobile messages and calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a genetic test, sent youth pictures to her phone in a bid to display a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "flashbacks" from a childhood with the McCanns.

The investigator, a data specialist with Leicestershire Police who gathered the evidence, told the court there "seemed to lack any responses" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt furthermore contacted family friends of the McCanns, based on the phone records.

On 9 October 2024, Gerry McCann picked up a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "a wrong number."

On that occasion Ms Wandelt deposited a voicemail on Mrs McCann's recording saying "I won't give up and I plan to establish my point."

The court was informed the co-defendant developed a connection online with Ms Wandelt before accompanying her on a visit to the McCanns' property in the county in that winter.

Communication data revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out through messaging service to Mrs McCann to express the press had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she deserved to be considered genuine in the months leading up to the appearance to that location, Leicestershire, in that winter.

The court learned message exchanges between the two individuals, in November 2024, considering endeavoring to get Mrs McCann's genetic material from her bins or from utensils at a restaurant.

"We must assert ourselves," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.

On the occasion of the visit to their house, the defendant transmitted a text which said: "We're currently sitting outside the McCanns' residence with our lights out like private investigators. I wanted to do this with another person I never thought I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."

The trial continues.
